My revamp of my 'Found Origami' site is finally complete and the new look is uploaded, yay!

I hope to God it works on everyone's browsers and devices. It was certainly one damned PITA struggle working out the kinks, although I learned a lot in doing it, and it's always fun to learn new things and expand on what you already knew.
Next will be the chicken site, which is already under way but is MUCH larger than the origami site and promises to be the big boss battle.

My Blog Has Migrated!
From now on, I'll be using Blogger instead of LiveJournal!
I've transferred all of my old LJ entries over to this blog. Blogger's hit counter only starts counting from today, so it doesn't include any views on the entries from the old LiveJournal account. I'm in the process of revamping my chicken and origami websites; blog and websites will all be incorporated into one area and a universal look from now on!
For now the old chicken site and origami site are still in place until I can finish thrashing out the new look.

Tenth Anniversary!
...of my websites, that is.
It's been ten years today since I started both my chicken info site http://jackshenhouse.com/ and my 'Found Origami' site http://jackshenhouse.com/FoundOrigamiHome.htm
This is the year that both will get a major revamping to an updated look, once my painting/juniper jihad slows...
It doesn't seem like 10 years ago that I started them. I've been fortunate to have interacted with some great folks because of them over the years, thank you!

Chickam Is On!
Hatching started Friday, we now have 8 chicks with two more eggs pipped!
Right now the cam is in the brooder box with 6 of the chicks, the
others are still in the incubator.

It's Back!
Thanks to my darling hubby and a fellow SA Goon making a HUGE effort on
my part, they were successfully in wresting my chicken info site away
from the previous crappy provider, it's back!

Chicken Site Missing For Now!
Argh, my stupid site provider has taken down my chicken info site with
no explanation and won't respond to our repeated emails. I KNOW it's all
paid up and there are no problems with the site content, so I don't
know what the heck is going on--but I suspect the provider is going
under. We're working on moving my site to another provider, for now if
anyone needs my help with anything chicken just let me know here.
Bloody frustrating though!
Our Head Hen, Bear, who is turning 9 years old this year has been under the weather. I'm not sure what her issue is but I'm treating for for a few likely causes (God, my kingdom for a microscope so I can do fecal smears--!)...but it may simply be her age. Phoenix the Head Roo is fretting for her and staying close by her side. We had her in for a few nights this last week when the temps got really cold overnight and learned after the first night to bring Phoenix in, too. He was SO worried about her the morning after that first night and was overjoyed to see her the next morning, he danced and danced around her for several minutes, chuckling and talking to her. I felt really bad, I didn't realize he'd think the worst the next morning!
We'll have to watch them both closely, I still remember when my first Head Hen, Wild Child, died from old age--my Head Roo, Jack, died about 24 hours later, out of the blue--I'm convinced of a broken heart. Phoenix is Jack's son, and has the same personality. But Bear is looking better the last two days, and the weather is FINALLY cutting us some slack on all the damned rain.

Here And There...
While I'm thinking of it, a few random bits and pieces...
Found a really cool site and new interest that I didn't even know I had, courtesy of Preservation magazine, a mag devoted to the national trust for historic preservation. There is a new photographic hobby, taking pictures of what are called 'Urban Ruins'--abandonded, decaying buildings, whether businesses, factories or homes. If you do a web serch on 'urban ruins' you'll come up with scads of sites, but I REALLY like Rob Dobi's work, here:

Check out the Tumblr section, which is futher subdivided into various areas for insitutions (mostly hospitals and asylums), factories and homes. He never discloses where these places are or their real names, so that they will remain undisturbed (Go, Rob!). The photos are the kind that pull you in, and make you want to know what is behind that tantalizing, half-open door.
CoolHunting, a site devoted to all kinds of art--and anything else you can think of. Each entry has a short description and a link to the page of the artist:

Batch 'O Fun...
A few recent discoveries via the good old Jib Jab site that gave me the giggles:

A site devoted to badly translated Asian (mostly) to English instructions, menus, product packages, signs--you name it. They even sell Tshirts, coffee mugs and other items emblazoned with the more outlandish stuff. You'll laugh till you cly!

'Nuff said. I'm going to show it to N., she'll insist on us singing it tonight at bedtime.

Something Awful...
...one of my favorite websites! :)
Just got back from spending some time perusing the Something Awful site. It's difficult to describe...it was started by some guys who are irrepressible, highly intelligent pranksters, whose scathing sense of humor reminds me of the ill-fated but mucho beloved 'MST3K'. It does carry some adult content here and there, so view it yourself before deciding if you'll let the kids see it. There is a section called "Photoshop Phriday" where they show off their own and their fans' Photoshopped fun. Another section called 'Comedy Goldmine' shares reader's job horror stories (funny, though). Fun Flash movies. My favorite section, by far, is "Pranks". That's the section where they hook scammers and porno/insurance/cheap meds website trollers and sloooowly reel them in... There is one story there called "The Smart Box". Read it, you'll be on the floor crying the laughter. :) It's hard to beleive that some people can be SO obtuse.
But I digress! The reason I'm posting this here is not only to share a great website, but to share a diamond mine of razor-sharp fashion reviews, which they call "Fashion SWAT":

It's WELL worth it. If you read nothing else, read the Retro SWAT series...glaringly ugly men's fashion pics from England in the 60's and 70's, ruthlessly torn apart by these two guys.

It Exists, At Least...

I get so many questions from people who keep chickens that I wanted to put all that info somewhere. It's still really raw, and needs LOADS of polishing, but at least it's there. As I learn HTML it will improve...
Meanwhile, I need to figure out why some of the words are running together, since I checked my boilerplate copy and it ISN'T like that...it got garbled in transit, I suppose...*sigh*
